Man wanted for firing gun during argument turns himself into police

A Hall County man who was on the run from Cornelia police is now in custody.
Florencio Villagomez turned himself into the Habersham County Detention Center Friday afternoon, June 2.

Police had been looking for him since May 28 after he allegedly fired a gun near some children during a domestic dispute. Officers charged Villagomez with one count of aggravated assault and three counts of cruelty to children. He remained in jail as of Saturday afternoon, June 3.

Shooting and search

Villagomez was wanted in connection to an incident that occurred on the afternoon of May 28 at 1925 Joes Way in Cornelia.

According to the Cornelia Police Department, the female victim told police she was in a verbal dispute with Villagomez. During their argument,  Villagomez allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired one round at the victim’s feet, in close proximity to children.

Villagomez fled on foot. Police led a two-and-a-half hour search for him with help from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Baldwin and Alto Police departments, and a Department of Corrections K9 unit. They were unable to find him.

Police said at the time that they believed Villagomez was picked up in an unidentified vehicle.
