A team of White County Special Olympic athletes participated in the 2023 State Summer Games at Emory University in Atlanta this past weekend.
Over 2,000 athletes, coaches, and unified partners from around the state were a part of the event. Special Olympians competed in athletics, cheerleading, swimming, gymnastics, flag football, soccer, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball.
The White County Special Olympics team won a total of 15 gold medals and 1 bronze medal, according to team coordinator Sharon Brown. They competed in running events and the javelin throw.
