Life in Motion: Grub and gratitude

Spending long hours working in uncomfortable, often dangerous conditions that are emotionally and physically draining is not the most appealing of job descriptions, but it’s the job first responders do, often with little thanks. That’s why Sen. Bo Hatchett on Wednesday treated members of the local public safety community to a healthy helping of grub and gratitude.

Hatchett hosted a barbecue lunch for first responders at the Habersham County Fairgrounds on May 3. Top Dawg Grillers served up more than 150 plates of free brisket nachos and ribs.

While many of those plates had to be carried to co-workers on duty, those who could get away enjoyed the break.

“It’s great! We all appreciate what he does for our state and our community. Bo’s a great role model for those underneath him. We are very thankful for him,” said Demorest Fire Chief Jonathan Knight.

Hatchett said he was happy to give back to those who “put their lives on the line for us every day.”

“People in Public Safety, it’s a thankless job,” he said. “This is just a small token to show that we are grateful for them.”
