Habersham County seeks board, authority members

Qualified residents of Habersham County who are interested in serving on any of the following boards should complete and return an application by Friday, May 12, or Friday, June 16, as indicated below.

Applications are available in the Commissioners Office, 130 Jacob’s Way, Clarkesville, or via www.habershamga.com.

May 12 application deadline:  

  • Joint Development Authority- The appointee will serve a four-year term ending June 30, 2027, and will be expected to attend quarterly meetings in addition to completing the required training. The location of the meetings rotates between Habersham, Banks, and Rabun County, and the meeting dates are coordinated by the Joint Development Authority. 
  • Family and Children’s Services Board: The appointee will serve a five-year term ending June 30, 2028, and will be required to attend monthly meetings in addition to any required training. The meetings are typically held on the third Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at the Department of Family and Children’s Services office on Grant Street in Clarkesville. 
  • Hospital Authority: The appointees (3) will serve a three-year term ending June 30, 2026. Meetings are typically held during the evening on the third Tuesday of the month in the hospital’s West Wing Board Room. Appointments are required to complete training pursuant to Georgia House Law 769, which, in summary, requires any Hospital Authority member to complete eight standards of education throughout a 12-month period. Each standard is one to two hours per session, and all standards require post-testing graded at 80% or higher. Any new member joining a Hospital Authority must complete and pass Standard 1 before they can be sworn in as a member. The Board of Commissioners will nominate a slate of three names from qualified applicants, and the final appointment will be made by the Hospital Authority. 
  • Library Board: The appointees (3) will serve a two-year term ending June 30, 2025. Meetings are typically held on the fourth Monday following the close of each quarter at 5:30 p.m. The location of the meetings rotates between the Cornelia Library and Clarkesville Library.
  • Board of Ethics Panel: The appointees (pool of 10) will be required to serve a two-year term ending April 2025. The Board of Ethics will be comprised of 10 residents of Habersham County, with each having been a resident of the county for at least one year immediately preceding the date of taking office and must remain a resident of the county while serving as a member of the Board of Ethics Panel. Each commission will designate two qualified citizens to provide a pool of 10.

June application deadline:

  • Planning Commission: The appointee will serve the remainder of a three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2024, and will be required to attend monthly meetings in addition to any required training. The meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Commission Conference Room of the Habersham County Administration Building in Clarkesville. Applications must be submitted by Friday, June 16.
