Four people, including a 15-year-old, were arrested after allegedly ditching drugs and weapons in the woods while fleeing from a wreck, state troopers say.
Georgia State Patrol Post 6 investigated the April 18 crash at the intersection of Chestatee and Green Hill roads, northwest of Gainesville.
The preliminary investigation determined that a Ford F-150 was traveling south on Green Hill Road while a Ford Mustang was west on Chestatee Road. The driver of the F-150, identified as Gerardo Gonzalez, 18, of Gainesville, failed to yield after stopping at the intersection stop sign.
The Mustang, driven by Justin Giles, 23, of Gainesville, struck the F-150 driver’s side with its front. The impact of the crash caused the pickup truck to overturn.
“After the collision, all four occupants of the F-150 fled the scene. All four were apprehended after discarding narcotics and weapons in the woods,” says Georgia State Patrol Public Information Officer Konswello Monroe.
Two of the weapons were reported stolen, Monroe says. While it’s unclear what charges were filed against the 15-year-old, the three older suspects were booked at the Hall County jail for theft by receiving stolen property and multiple drug violations.
One minor injury was reported as a result of the wreck but did not require medical transport, Monroe says.
As of Wednesday, April 19, Gonzalez, Dominguez, and Aviles remained in jail.
