A Clarkesville woman was seriously injured early Saturday in a single-vehicle wreck in Rabun County. Around 2:34 a.m., troopers from Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Post 7 in Toccoa responded to the wreck northwest of Clayton.
According to GSP’s preliminary investigation, 28-year-old Elizabeth Jordan Morgan was driving a Chevy Tahoe north on Persimmon Road. The vehicle ran off the east shoulder of the roadway. Troopers say Morgan overcorrected. The Tahoe then traveled off the west shoulder of the road and down an embankment, where it struck one tree head-on then hit another.
The state patrol report indicates Morgan was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash. She was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with suspected serious injuries.
Troopers charged Morgan with DUI and multiple other traffic offenses, including no seatbelt, failure to maintain lane, driving too fast for conditions, failure to exercise due care, and tire requirements.
