The White County Board of Commissioners voted Monday during their meeting to authorize the online sale of several pieces of equipment assigned to White County Public Safety. The equipment is no longer useful, officials say. Proceeds from the sale would go to public safety for future use.

The commissioners also approved working with grant writer consultant JMCM Consulting to seek grant funding from the federal emergency management agency.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy told commissioners that his department is looking at one to one-and-a-half-million dollars in equipment replacement costs over the next five to ten years. He said they have tried unsuccessfully to obtain Assistance to Firefighters Grants and wanted to try this option.

The county will only have to pay the consultants if grants are approved.
