Georgia Power is once again delaying the start up of two new units at its Vogtle nuclear power plant near Augusta — and that delay is going to cost $200 million.
Southern Company, the utility’s Atlanta-based parent company, announced the delays, along with its yearly corporate earnings Thursday. Unit 3 could begin commercial operation this May or June — not the end of April, its most recent deadline — and Unit 4 could be pushed back as late as March of next year rather than the end of this year.
Despite the delays, the company announced strong profits of $3.5 billion for the year.
