A quick response by firefighters prevented a potential wildfire north of Cleveland and brought back an eery sense of déjà vu.
Around 5:15 p.m. on February 13, White County E-911 dispatched crews to a brush fire near Terrys Place off Windy Acres Road.
“The leaf fire was spreading quickly due to strong winds,” says White County Public Safety spokesperson Bryce Barrett.
When firefighters arrived, the fire had already encompassed roughly a quarter of an acre. According to Barrett, the engine company promptly contained the fire and extinguished it within 20 minutes.
Monday’s fire was eerily reminiscent of how the Unicoi Wildfire began.
Around this same time last year, a brush fire got out of hand and spread across Tray Mountain near Unicoi State Park. The fire burned 184 acres before it was contained.
