An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office will assist in determining the cause of the fire that destroyed an unoccupied Habersham County home Wednesday afternoon.

Habersham County E-911 received a call at 4:17, reporting a house fire in the area of 1077 Wheeler Road, Demorest, in the Fairview community.

The caller told dispatchers it was an abandoned house.

Habersham County Emergency Services Engines 16, 13, and 12, Med 16, Captain 1, and Battalion 1 were dispatched to the fire.

Captain 1 arrived at 4:24 p.m. to find a fully-engulfed, 800-square-foot structure.

Crews began a defensive attack while establishing water supplies to two different attack engines.

The fire was contained at 4:55 p.m., with all units cleared at 6 p.m.

No injuries were reported. Wheeler Road was shut down at Garrett Road to protect a supply line attached to a hydrant across the road from the fire.
