NGCF accepting applications for 145 scholarship opportunities

The North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) plans to award 145 scholarships this spring through its annual scholarship cycle. Applications are open now through March 1, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $15,000 for high school seniors, college students, and non-traditional students who are furthering their educational journey.

The 2023 scholarship cycle has four new opportunities in addition to previously awarded scholarships:

  • The Coach Ray Lamb Scholarship is available to seniors from Commerce High School with a minimum 2.5 GPA, who have participated in at least one sport while in high school, and have been active in the community. Two scholarships will be awarded in 2023, one for a male and one for a female, each in the one-time award amount of $1,900.
  • The Fund the Dream Scholarship was established by Hispanic Alliance, GA, and funded by the proceeds from the annual Latino Fest in Gainesville. The purpose of this scholarship is to “Build the Dream, One Graduate at Time.” When choosing a recipient, consideration will be given to the applicant’s academic achievement, financial need, immigration status, volunteering efforts and future educational goals. The inaugural scholarship award will be a one-time award of $1,500.
  • The Grace Sheer Scholarship is offered to a senior female athlete graduating from Dawson County High School. Applicants must exemplify excellence in academics, sports and extracurricular activities. The 2023 scholarship will be a one-time award in the amount of $1,500.
  • The Jessica Heard Memorial Scholarship will award a one-time award of $1,500 this year to a graduating senior or past graduate of North Forsyth High School. The applicants’ financial need, extra-curricular activities and community volunteering efforts will be taken into consideration for this scholarship.

“NGCF is honored to administer these scholarship opportunities on behalf of our fundholders. They have made an intentional decision to invest in students during one of the most pivotal journeys of their lives,” said Megan Martin, NGCF’s Vice President of Marketing & Development.

Each NGCF scholarship fund has its own award amount, specific purpose, and eligibility criteria. In 2022, NGCF’s annual cycle awarded $502,825 in scholarships to students across North Georgia.

Applications are reviewed by scholarship committees that include community volunteers as well as members of the NGCF board and staff. Student application information remains anonymous, ensuring that award recipients meet the criteria established within individual scholarship funds.
