Hot stove left unattended at fire station catches on fire

A built-in fire suppression system over a burning stove saved the day at a local fire house this past weekend.

Around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 29, Hall County Station 5 was called to the scene of a residential fire off of Spout Springs Road. Firefighters left in the middle of cooking breakfast and, in their rush to respond, accidentally left the stove top on, officials say.

While they were out working the fire, another crew returned to the station from a medical call and found smoke in the kitchen with a small fire coming from the stove top.

“As they went to grab a fire extinguisher, the fire was extinguished quickly by the stove’s built-in fire suppression system,” says Hall County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Kimberlie Ledsinger.

The fire caused “minimal damage,” says Ledsinger. No injuries were reported.
