On Saturday, January 14, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School senior, Emilio Roman, was recognized at the United Soccer Coaches Awards Banquet in Philadelphia, PA. The banquet honors soccer players from across the United States who have been named to the All-America Teams. Roman was one of 81 male players to receive recognition and one of nine male players to earn this achievement for the second time in their high school career.

Roman holds the State Championship trophy following the state championship game against Carmel Christian.

Once again, Roman was a key member of the back-to-back NCISAA state championship team. Roman finished the season with 28 goals and eight assists in 22 games. He was a force to be reckoned with in his time as an Eagle. He led the team in scoring for two consecutive years with a total of 49 goals and earned a spot on the All-Region, All-Conference, All-State teams for back-to-back years. Being named to the All-America team again is a testament to both him and the Rabun Gap soccer program.

Head Coach Andrew Wiese spoke very highly of Roman and highlighted his strong work ethic and athletic talent.

“Emilio being named a United Soccer Coaches High School All-American two years in a row is a testament to his work and dedication throughout his two years as a student at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School,” Wiese said. “Scoring 20 goals in a season isn’t easy. It doesn’t just happen. But for Emilio to do it two years in a row and help Rabun Gap win two consecutive NCISAA 4A state championships, he has proved the quality he has as a player.”

Roman led the team in scoring with 28 goals in 22 games.

Roman humbly accepted the achievement and credits his teammates and family for helping him to accomplish this award again.

“I am happy and proud to be able to receive this award for the second consecutive year. This is an award for dedication and sacrifice throughout the season,” Roman said. “I share this award with my teammates, family, and friends. They are always there to support me and this would not have been possible without them.”
