Firefighters evacuated some student residents from a Piedmont University apartment complex Monday night after a fire alarm went off inside one of the buildings.
The Demorest Fire Department responded to the alarm at Piedmont Village on Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway just before 9 p.m. on January 23.
Upon arrival, fire personnel found light smoke coming from a utility room, but no fire. Residents were safely evacuated and power to the building was secured.
Firefighters from Clarkesville and Cornelia assisted with the call along with Demorest police.
No injuries were reported. It’s unknown at this time what caused the smoke.
