Georgia state troopers say a man lying in the middle of the road in Hartwell was killed when a Chevy Tahoe ran over him. The driver faces DUI charges. Both he and the pedestrian are suspected of being impaired, state troopers say.
Willie Floyd Berryman, 49, of Hartwell, was lying face up on Slaton Avenue, straddling the centerline, when the undercarriage of the Tahoe struck him.
Berryman was pronounced dead on arrival at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina.
The driver in the January 10 incident has been identified as 36-year-old Patrick Ricardo Hickman of Hartwell. Troopers say he was driving on a suspended license.
The fatal crash occurred less than a mile from downtown Hartwell on Slaton near Savannah Street.
