It’s been another busy election season for poll workers in Habersham, and the county’s election supervisor has only high praise for them.
“Even though we have had a record-breaking number of voters coming in daily this week, we have been able to keep the wait time to 5 minutes or less,” Habersham County Election Superintendent Laurel Ellison tells Now Habersham.
“I have an amazing group of poll workers and office staff that makes this process work so smoothly; I couldn’t be prouder, and I appreciate all of their hard work and overtime that they put in.”
Election officials say Habersham has averaged around 1,800 early in-person voters each day since the polls opened on November 28. When the polls close at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 2, early voting will be over in the high-stakes Senate runoff between incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker. Still, there will be plenty of work left to do.

Habersham County poll workers must prepare to open five additional precincts in the county on election day, Tuesday, December 6. Currently, the Habersham North Precinct at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center is the only one open for early voting. Voters from all over the county are casting ballots there. That will change on election day when voters must report to their assigned precincts (see list below).
For Tuesday’s runoff, the Habersham South Precinct will be located in the old Community Bank & Trust Operations Center near Belk department store off the US 441 Bypass in Cornelia.
“The area in that building that we are able to use for this election is a smaller area than the previous location at the Community House and they [voters] may have to wait outside on the covered sidewalk,” says Ellison. “The wait time should be no longer than 5 minutes, but that will depend on the number of voters that show up at one time.”
To be on the safe side, Ellison encourages Habersham South voters to dress for the possibility they may be out in the weather. If they have to wait outside, she says “it should only be for a short period of time.”
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day.
Voters unsure of their assigned precincts may call the county elections office at 706-839-0170 or visit the My Voter Page on the secretary of state’s website.
