Former Gainesville High School teacher accused of molesting 16-year-old girl

Gainesville police have filed charges against a former high school social studies teacher and coach who allegedly engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

Cameron Millholland, 26, of Dawsonville, is charged with two counts of child molestation. Police began investigating him on August 18 after Gainesville City School officials notified law enforcement of a complaint about Millholland’s conduct.

“The Gainesville City School System immediately placed Millholland on leave and has assisted with the extensive investigation,” says Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish.

“Once the allegation was reported on August 18th he was immediately removed from the classroom and his resignation was accepted on August 19th,” says Gainesville City School’s Director of Communications Joy Griffin.

During the course of the investigation, police say they found a pattern of alleged inappropriate behavior. They developed information that Millholland had an inappropriate relationship with a student via electronic communications.

As a result of the investigation, on August 31, law enforcement obtained arrest warrants for Millholland and a search warrant for his residence. Police arrested him at his Dawsonville home the same day.

In addition to teaching social studies, Millholland was the Gainsville High Varsity Boys Golf Coach. He was hired at the school in August 2019.

“While we are shocked and devastated by the action of one of our former employees, we applaud the students for coming forward,” says Gainesville City School Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Williams. “Safety is always the top priority, and the GHS administration responded quickly to the allegations. Resources have been and will be available to those impacted by this incident.”

Police are asking anyone with information about this case to contact them through the Gainesville Police Department online tip line.

“Safety of students and staff is our top priority,” says Chief Parrish. “We encourage students and stakeholders to report any such allegations to be investigated.”

Millholland is being held in the Hall County Jail without bond.
