The #4-ranked Lady Indians went to Homer on Tuesday evening to take on both Banks County and East Jackson in a region tri-match. The varsity team crafted a new win streak with wins over both opponents in straight sets. Meanwhile, the JV team split, taking a win over East Jackson before dropping the match to Banks.
The Lady Indians edged East Jackson 25-19 in the first set of that match, and polished it off with a 25-13 match-clinching set in the finale to take the 2-0 win.
“Addy [McCoy] hit amazing, and Sarah [Jennings] woke up in the second set and was unstoppable the rest of the night,” says coach Matt Heyl. “Great serving from Kitty [Rodenas], Addy, and Elsa [Sanchez].”
Then came the much-anticipated match against Banks County, which has become a solid volleyball program that annually makes the playoffs. It was a 25-14 win for TFS in the first set, followed by a 25-22 edging in the second to nail down the win.
“Addy, Sarah, and Elsa hit great and passed great,” adds Heyl. “Kitty served amazing again. Everyone got to play in both matches.”
The JV team rallied after going down 25-27 in a tight opening set. The girls earned a 25-15 second-set win to even the match, and won 15-11 to claim the match with the third set.
That momentum carried over into the Banks matchup, as the Lady Indians took the opening set 25-21. However, it was a 14-25 and 9-15 second and third set score that handed the host team the win.
The Lady Indians varsity team moves to 8-3 on the season, and are 3-1 in region play. The JV team is now 7-4 overall and 3-1 in region play. The teams play next on Thursday at Athens Christian against the host school and Elbert County.
