Habersham EMC is again warning its members against scam callers trying to collect their payment information.
“We have reports of calls threatening disconnection unless payment is sent. This is NOT Habersham EMC,” the local cooperative posted to social media. “Please be reminded we will never call and demand payment over the phone.”
HEMC offers these tips to members to avoid being scammed:
- Don’t give out your personal information over the phone if you suspect it may be a scam.
- Always call HEMC at 800-640-6812 and speak to a member services representative if you have questions about your account.
- Do not call back to, or give information to, the 800-720-4190 number, even though the message will say it is Habersham EMC, it is not!
