Emergency crews on Saturday recovered the body of a man from Lake Knickerbocker in Gainesville. An autopsy will be conducted to determine if it’s the same man they’ve been searching for since Wednesday.

Authorities believe the man may have taken his own life.

According to Gainesville Police, the man’s body was recovered around 3 p.m. on June 25.

“We do believe this to be the same individual we have been looking for, but will have to await autopsy results to be definitive,” Gainesville Police Lt. Kevin Holbrook told reporters.

The search for a possible suicide victim began around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Gainesville Police, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources were involved in the search.
