The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade has ignited an intense emotional reaction across the nation. The decision was handed down by a 5-4 majority of the Court. Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the majority in a 6-3 ruling to uphold Mississippi’s abortion law in Dobbs v. Jackson but stopped short of agreeing to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Beyond the social and medical implications of today’s ruling, is the historical legal precedent that it sets. Never before has the Supreme Court granted a constitutional right and then taken it away. The ruling returns abortion law decision-making to the states where many pro-life supporters say it always belonged.
Impromptu rallies and protests have popped up across the country. The airwaves have been dominated by reaction to the ruling since it was announced around 10 a.m. ET Friday. President Joe Biden and world leaders have shared their opinions and social media is ablaze with public reaction.
Now Habersham readers are sharing their views as well. Here are some of them:

Great! It should be left up to the states!
Deb Zilm
This will not stop abortion. Sadly, it will only stop safe abortion. Once again, emergency rooms will see more and more women trying to survive hemorrhage, infection, septic shock. Women’s health is everyone’s health.
David James
The decision is up to the individual States, which is where it should have been all along. Keep the Fed out of this!
Ann Elizabeth Williamson
It never should’ve been the federal government’s decision to make for the states.

Huge step forward for women’s rights – they now have the right to be born
