The ongoing search for a teenage runaway in Banks County took an unusual turn Saturday when deputies arrested the girl’s biological mother.
Major Carissa McFadden with the Banks County Sheriff’s Office tells Now Habersham Annette June Walker “is now in custody for interference with custody.”
17-year-old Madison Wills lives with her father. She was last seen leaving her residence on Highway 51 South on Thursday, June 16. The following day, the sheriff’s office issued a lookout for the girl.
On Saturday morning, a woman claiming to be Wills’ biological mother commented on the Banks County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. She said she had been in contact with her daughter and that, “She is safe.” The woman was highly critical of authorities for not contacting her about her missing daughter directly. She added if they had, “This wouldn’t have been a waste of tax payers [sic] money!!!”
Hours after those comments were posted, deputies arrested Walker and booked her into jail. Major McFadden confirmed Walker’s arrest but did not offer any other details about what led up to it. Meanwhile, Wills is still missing.
“Law enforcement is still in search of the juvenile,” McFadden says.
