Friday last day to request absentee ballot for June 21 runoff

Deadline to apply for absentee ballots is June 10

Some Habersham County voters will return to the polls this month to help decide who will be the Democratic party’s nominee in several key statewide races. Democratic primary runoffs will be held for lieutenant governor, secretary of state, commissioner of insurance, and commissioner of labor.

While there are Republican runoffs in other counties in Georgia, there are no GOP primary runoffs in Habersham County.

Who can vote in Habersham’s runoff election?

Anyone who voted Democratic, Nonpartisan, or who didn’t vote at all in the May 24 general primary is eligible to vote in the June 21 runoff as long as they were registered to vote by April 25, 2022.

Eligible voters who can’t make it to the polls on June 21 may vote absentee but they’ll need to hurry; the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is June 10. Habersham County Election Supervisor Laurel Ellison says no absentee ballots will be mailed to voters after that date.

“Absentee by mail voters who voted Democratic and Nonpartisan and used the exception of Disabled, Elderly & UOCAVA and checked the ‘Opt in’ box to request ballots for the rest of the 2022 election cycle, will automatically receive an absentee ballot for the June 21, 2022, General Primary Runoff,” Ellison explains. “If voters are unsure if they will receive an automatic absentee ballot for this election, they need to call our office at 706-839-0170 asap.”

Absentee ballots must be returned to the elections office no later than 7 p.m. on June 21 to be counted.

Early voting

Voters may also cast ballots ahead of the runoff between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. the week of June 13-17. All early/advance voting will take place at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville. There will be no early/advance voting at the Habersham South Precinct and no Saturday voting.
