Marguerite Elizabeth Maynard Franklin, age 85, joined her late husband Julian in rest on Friday June 3, 2022.
Margo, lovingly nicknamed by Julian, was born October 30, 1937 in Gainesville to the late Dorothy “Dot and Alvin “Sam” Maynard and was a graduate of Gainesville High School. She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority and graduated from Brenau University. After living in Atlanta and Athens, Margo and Julian retired to Highlands, North Carolina, in 1996 and quickly fell in love with the community.
A consummate mother and homemaker, Margo was an excellent cook and helped author a cookbook for Laurel Garden Club in Highlands. She was also involved with The Bascom, during its early development. Margo was a girl scout leader, candy striper and an advanced bridge player. Daughter Pam fondly recalls her mother leading her Girl Scout troop to earn a “wildflower” badge. Son Rick loved when the family rode horses together on their property in Gainesville. Margo truly was a “hostess with the most-ess”…several members of the Laurel Garden Club still ask for one of her “secret” recipes! Margo loved the Highlands mountains and enjoyed hiking, gardening and being with her family.
Cherishing her memory are daughter Pam (Chuck) Carver; son Rick (Jennifer) Franklin; grandchildren Monica (Burgess), Laura (Connor), Sam (Julia), Max and Sarah, and great granddaughter Margo. Margo and Julian would have been married 63 years this month.
Private graveside services for the family will be held at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville with Rev. Becky Matheny officiating. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Highlands Biological Station at https://highlandsbiological.app.neoncrm.com/forms/givetohbf.
