TFS standout volleyball player Alba Romanos Gracia signed her national letter of intent on Wednesday with Ventura College. The senior will be pursuing her academic career as well as both beach and indoor volleyball for the Pirates of Ventura College, who reside in the Western State Conference (WSC) and the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).
“We are very excited Alba reached out to us about continuing her academic and athletic journey at Ventura College,” says VC coach Brad Lyans. “She will join us for both indoor and beach volleyball. Alba brings the tools necessary to be a successful dual-sport athlete. We look forward to Alba contributing to our success as defending Conference champions.”
Romanos, of Zaragoza, Spain, becomes the fourth TFS volleyball player in the past two years to sign to compete at the college level, and just the second to be able to compete in beach volleyball.
“Alba Romanos came to TFS the year after just missing the Sweet 16,” says coach Matt Heyl. “Alba was the much-needed addition we needed to have a year of excellence. She brought us great skill but more importantly, she was a great teammate. She was a great positive influence on her team with her kindness and encouragement.”
After having a very slow start to the 2020 season, Alba helped spark the team, winning the next 10 of 12 matches and helping propel TFS to a winning season.
“Not only did we have a winning season, but we advanced to the Sweet 16 again for only the second time in history,” says Heyl.
Adds Athletic Director Scott Neal: “Alba demonstrates that simply adhering to a plan when you have a dream can open up opportunities of a lifetime. Once she decided she wanted to play at the next level, she pursued that dream with consistency and determination. We are so proud of her!”
Romanos has been an integral part of the TFS volleyball program since 2020, helping get the Lady Indians to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances and region runner-up finishes. In that span, TFS has knocked off ten top-10 ranked teams. Romanos’ 201 digs in 2021 ranks 17th most in a single season.
She became the ninth TFS athlete this year (2021-22) to commit to play at the college level, which is a Tallulah Falls record. Since her signing, a 10th athlete in George Ketch (Berry College) also signed.
