A 22-year-old Athens woman is in jail charged with aggravated assault for shooting and wounding a man. Athens-Clarke County Police arrested Deaundrea Silmon on Thursday.
The shooting happened in the 100 block of Hawthorne Avenue. Around 11:30 p.m. on May 31, police were dispatched to the scene in reference to a discharging firearms call. Responding officers found a 29-year-old man who had been struck by gunfire. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives identified Silmon as the alleged shooter and took her into custody on June 2. Police booked her into the Athens-Clarke County jail where she currently remains without bond, online jail records show.

According to ACCPD statistics, 21 people have been wounded in 80 shootings in Athens this year. That’s more than double the number of wounded and nearly twice the number of shootings in the first five months of 2021.
