The TFS varsity soccer teams split with visiting Lakeview Academy on Thursday evening in a non-region contest. The girls were defeated 9-4, though they held close going into the half. The boys won 4-0 to post a second straight shutout.

The Lady Indians early on were right with Lakeview, as both sides got an early goal. TFS got the scoring started, as Addie Higbie found the back of the net. Honora Kahwach dropped in the next 2 goals.

“Honora’s goals were candidates for the ESPN Top-10 list,” says coach Travis Mullis. “She launched consecutive shots from the kickoff circle, sailing them over the keeper’s head.”

Higbie scored again, her second goal of the match, late in the first half. Despite the early offensive explosion, it was 5-4 in favor of Lakeview at the break. The rest of the way, TFS was outscored 4-0.

“The score wasn’t indicative of the effort and passion offered by the Lady Indians,” adds Mullis, who also pointed out Lakeview’s star-studded lineup that included a UGA commit.

Sophomore keeper Kyndal Anderson had 5 stellar saves, 3 of which were diving or jumping just below the crossbar.

“A five-across defensive line anchored by sophomore Tessa Foor, freshmen Josie Chesser, Caroline Moseley, Gemma Farris, and Junior Leah Desta provided significant protection for Anderson,” states Mullis. “Junior midfielder Maddie Mullis and sophomores Maddie LeBlanc and Lily Desta made great stops and passes to regain possession and move into the attack. sophomore forward Jenna Chesser also gave good minutes offering several crosses and shots on goal. The team will rest tomorrow and Monday before traveling to Athens for their first region match.”

Kahwach’s 2 goals brings her to an even 20 in her TFS career at the varsity level, leaving her 6 shy of the school record of 26 set by Ashton Boyd (’12-’14).

The Lady Indians are now 1-2 on the season.

Indians play near-perfect match

The Indians meanwhile played a near-perfect defensive match. Leading just 1-0 at the half, TFS scored 3 times in the back half to claim the 4-0 win.

“It was a beautiful game to watch,” says coach Jeremy Stille. “The boys passed well, communicated, and defended well. I’m proud of our defense and keepers for keeping a second straight clean sheet and dealing with a much larger Lakeview team. The midfield and offense played tremendously, constantly moving the ball and threatening the Lakeview defense.”

Sophomore Austin Ball recorded 2 goals for the Indians, Clay Kafsky had one, and Sean Lynes, Jr. had the other. Kafsky’s goal marked the first of his varsity career.

“It was a phenomenal game to watch for the first home game and we had an overwhelming amount of home supporters constantly making noise for the boys,” adds Stille.

The Indians advance to 2-0-1 on the season.
