Visiting Blue Creek Market

Locally grown, grass-feed beef burger

Once October rolls around, local farmer’s markets are tricky. Fall crops are coming it, summer’s bounty is at an end and school starts. Farmers who have been at markets every Saturday start taking a well-deserved break. So on a crisp fall Saturday, I went in search of other options for locally-grown. I first heard of Blue Creek from a friend’s post on FaceBook. Located in Hollywood, Blue Creek is a great find for locavores and a group of Moms with hungry little cheerleaders.

Inside is clean, bright. Jams, jellies, dressings and other jarred goodies abound. A small dairy case houses Mountain Fresh Creamery milks as well as local butter. An exciting find was the local meat section. Lots of bacon, sausage and other cuts rested along ground beef and Springer Mountain chicken. Special cuts or particular needs can be accommodated by placing an order by Wed for pickup on Thursday.

Owners Charles and Tammie Holland opened Blue Creek with a desire to provide, “fresh  local, simple” offerings to the community. Each have a background in restaurants and grocery. Residents of Cleveland may recognize the Blue Creek BBQ. Prior to opening in Habersham, the Hollands operated the popular BBQ restaurant. Others who have know Tammie’s family in Hartwell will be happy to see her family’s fried pie legacy continues.Step up to the counter and place an order for a grass-fed beef burger (it was delicious!) or for their well known BBQ and other goodies. . Be prepared to wait if you come during peak lunch hour, use the wait to complete your shopping. Place your order for pies in time for holiday gatherings.

Blue Creek is open 6 days a week, call 706-754-0775 to place special order. Tell them you heard about it on NowHabersham.com!
