GA DOT updates list of road and exit closings for Atlanta Braves parade

Officials expect 1 million people to turn out along the parade route and at Truist Park Friday, Nov. 5 to celebrate the Atlanta Braves' World Series Championship win.

ATLANTA — If you’re traveling from Northeast Georgia into Atlanta and Cobb County on Friday for the World Series Championship parade for the Braves, leave early and brace for gridlock.

Officials are estimating that one million people will pack the midtown and downtown area for the celebration.

Road/Exit closures and times

The Georgia Department of Transportation on Friday updated its list of closures for state routes and interstate exit ramps for November 5 to ensure the safety of those attending the victory parade. Here is the updated list of closures:

Downtown Atlanta Area 

  • Exit 249B from I-75/I-85 Northbound – 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
  • Exit 250 from I-75/I-85 Northbound will have a rolling closure – 11:30 am to 1:00 pm

Truist Park Area

  • US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway from Riverwood Parkway to Akers Mill Road – 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway from Riverwood Parkway to I-285 (Ramps open, all exiting traffic directed NB) – 11:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway from Riverwood Parkway to Cumberland Boulevard – Noon to 5:00 pm
  • Exit 19 (US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway) from I-285 Eastbound – Noon to 5:00 pm
  • Exit 20 from I-285 Westbound – Noon to 5:00 pm

Sweeping for re-opening of Cobb Parkway to begin at 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

The Cumberland Boulevard, Akers Mill HOV lane (headed eastbound) and Windy Hill Road interstate interchanges will remain open to exiting and entering traffic. Cobb County police officers and signed detours will also be visible to aid motorists.

Georgia DOT is working in with Cobb County and the City of Atlanta to monitor traffic signal and arterial traffic in the area. GDOT says it will adjust traffic signal timing “as necessary.”

The state transportation department urges parade-goers and drivers to exercise caution, drive alert, and slow down in areas with high volumes of vehicle and foot traffic.
