Habersham County’s municipal and special elections took place Nov. 2, during which voters cast their ballots for local government positions, alcohol sales referendums and the District 5 commissioner seat.
The commission seat opened earlier this year when Commissioner Tim Stamey resigned his position due to health issues. Over the past several months, four different candidates, Mike Adams, Ty Akins, Locke Arnold and Jason Hogan launched their campaigns for the position.

Election results show Hogan held 24% of the overall vote, while Akins took 48%. Adams took 14%and Arnold took 13%. A runoff election is now in place for county voters to decide who will represent them.
The runoff election will take place on the last day of the month, and both are continuing their campaigns until then.
Hogan says the support he has received has been encouraging, and he’s not giving up, even with Akins’ lead.
“I have made my decision,” Hogan says. “With a flood of support this morning, I will continue this until the final vote.”
Akins says he’s “feeling pretty good,” about the election results, with him pulling in nearly half of the vote on a four-candidate ballot.
“I’m humbled and encouraged by the support of the voters in Habersham,” Akins tells Now Habersham. “I’ve had an outpouring of renewed support, so I feel confident that the runoff will have a similar outcome at the general election.”
The runoff election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021.
