High School recognizes volunteer Loffredo

Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper recognizes Bonnie Loffredo for her volunteer work with students at the high school.

Through an after school tutoring program called LIFT – Learning For Tomorrow – volunteer Bonnie Loffredo has gained recognition from students and staff at Habersham Central High School. HCHS teacher Deborah Morrison nominated her, not for an award, but for recognition of her “amazingly compassionate, selfless, and Godly” contributions to learners.

Loffredo was formally recognized for her contributions to LIFT during Monday night’s school board meeting.

Morrison said Loffredo began attending her own math class halfway through a semester because some afterschool LIFT students were having difficulty and she wanted to be able to help them. Loffredo attended every class, took every test, and completed every assignment for the class, Morrison said. She did those things to help the students in the afterschool program.

“She eagerly offers to help anyone who seems to be having difficulty,” Morrison said. “In my 27 years of teaching, I have never met anyone like her.”

Loffredo got involved with LIFT when she was Executive Director of the Habersham County United Way. The program began as a partnership between the non-profit organization and county school system. Loffredo has since retired from United Way but remains one of LIFT’s most ardent supporters. More volunteers are needed.
