White County has recorded its second confirmed case of rabies this year. The county’s public safety department issued an alert to residents in the Arthur Seabolt Road area after a dog came into contact with a rabid fox.
The fox was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab – Virology Section in Decatur. White County Environmental Health was advised Wednesday, October 6, that the fox tested positive for rabies.
Positive alert signs were to be posted in the area where the rabid fox was located south of Cleveland.
People in the area with concerns about possible rabid animal exposure should contact White County Environmental Health at 706-348-7698 during normal business hours.
Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies.
