A Flowery Branch man faces several charges for allegedly stealing more than $20,000 in COVID emergency rental assistance from Hall County. Investigators say Tony Lamar Mosley, 48, allegedly pulled off the scheme by pretending to be a landlord.
Authorities charged Mosley with four felony counts of theft by deception.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators began working the case on September 16 after a Hall County Government representative reported the theft.
The initial investigation showed the county awarded Mosley rental assistance four times this year. The applications included documents and listed Mosley as the landlord of four purported rental properties.
“Personnel processing paperwork became suspicious after noticing the most recent application in the series included months for which Mosley had already received checks,” says Hall County Sheriff’s spokesperson Derreck Booth.
During the investigation, detectives determined Mosley was not the owner or landlord of any of the properties.
Hall County deputies arrested Mosley at his Hog Mountain Road residence on September 24. He was released from the Hall County Jail on Sunday, September 26, after posting a $66,800 bond.
The case remains under investigation.
