It was a heartbreaker for White County Friday in their region opener against Dawson. The Warriors got on the board first but it was the Tigers who made the final points count. Dawson won the region opener 31-28 on a 34-yard field goal by Dylan Thompson with just 28 seconds left in the game. The win puts Dawson up 2-3;1-0 on the season and drops the Warriors to 1-4;0-1.

Undefeated Stephens County took a well-deserved week off after an impressive 5-0 start. The Indians return to action next week with a home game against Monroe Area.

And in Jefferson, the Dragons defeated Flowery Branch 27-7 in their region opener. The undefeated defending region champs appear poised to take it all again behind QB/RB/LB Malaki Starks. Starks is the No. 2-rated player in the state and a Georgia commitment. He did a little bit of everything for the Dragons last year, and still does, but Starks got a big boost on offense with the arrival of Commerce transfer Sammy Brown, who is averaging 103.8 yards rushing.
