The Tallulah Falls School community commemorated the 20-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks this week.
A number of faculty and staff members appeared in a video that was broadcast to students on September 10. Responding to the question, “What do you remember about 9/11?” employees shared personal and collective thoughts on the day touching on faith, grief, sacrifice, patriotism, unity and shared experiences.
National Honor Society officers at the Upper School made a brief statement at the beginning of the day and prepared a display for student viewing in the lobby.
Middle school students gathered at the firepit early in the day for a ceremony of remembrance.
“Obviously this grim moment in our nation’s history is seared in the memory of those who experienced it first-hand,” said President and Head of School Larry Peevy. “But for our students, it is important to include this in our conversations and curriculum. We honor the lives lost that day and give thanks to the heroes who responded in the aftermath of the tragedy and to our military who responded through the years to the impact it had on our country’s commitment to freedom.”
