A Clarkesville man faces DUI and other charges after leading law enforcement on a police chase this afternoon, the Georgia State Patrol says.

The chase ended when the driver, Tristan Hunsucker, 21, crashed.

Around 12:23 p.m. Wednesday, officers say they observed a red Mustang driving recklessly and laying drags on GA 17 inside Clarkesville city limits. When officers attempted to stop the driver, later identified as Hunsucker, they say he fled.

Clarkesville police and a state trooper pursued the Mustang down GA 17 onto GA 365. From there, the chase continued south for approximately five miles.

“At GA 197, the suspect attempted to exit GA 365 and crashed as he attempted to turn,” says Sgt. Luke Mize with GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

Officers apprehended Hunsucker after the wreck. Officials say Habersham EMS was not dispatched to the scene, indicating he was not seriously injured.

Officers charged Hunsucker with DUI, felony fleeing, reckless driving, and numerous other traffic offenses.

Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett has confirmed that Hunsucker is the same suspect arrested in a hit and run at an auto dealership in Cornelia in April.
