Cornelia City Manager is a finalist for Brunswick job

Donald Anderson, long-time Cornelia City Manager, is one of two finalists named for the job of City Manager in Brunswick, Georgia.

Anderson interviewed for the job along with 5 others last week. He got word he was one of two finalists this week and immediately began informing Cornelia City Council members that an official announcement would be forthcoming.

Anderson is a Savannah, Georgia native with degrees from both Armstrong Atlantic State University and Savannah State University. Getting the Brunswick job would be a return closer to home for him.

In his application for the Brunswick job, Anderson touted his management of Cornelia during the great recession and his experience as Assistant City Manager on Tybee Island prior to coming to Habersham County in 2006. “My experience at Tybee Island gives me insight and knowledge on issues facing Georgia’s coastal communities,” he wrote to Brunswick leaders.

Brunswick currently has a population three times the size of Cornelia’s with a budget more than three times larger.

Brunswick’s Mayor, Cornell Harvey, says Anderson and the other candidate, James Drumm of Zephyrhills, Florida, still face another round of interviews with City Commissioners. Harvey says he also hopes to arrange some sort of public meeting to gauge citizen reaction to the two finalists. Brunswick Commissioners plan to make a final choice for City Manager in about a month.
