Linda Marilyn Stewart, 71, passed away in Demorest, GA, after a long illness. An early fall memorial service is planned.
The youngest child of the late Vesta Cook and Thomas “ Juddy” Stewart. Linda chose not to marry or have children but raised a large family of beloved cats whom she referred to as her “kids.”
An aspiring artist, Linda, graduated from Union County High in 1968 and earned a BA from the Atlanta School of Art and Design. She enjoyed 25 years at the Days Inn/Atlanta and other hospitality arenas. She worked several events at the Carter Center and was privileged to have met President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Roselyn Carter.
After retirement, Linda returned to her Blairsville home and worked part-time at the Brasstown Valley Resort. An avid collector, Linda enjoyed visiting flea markets and thrift stores.
A trip to Peru’s 15th-century Inca citadel, Machu Picchu, was the highlight of Linda’s travels. Linda also participated in the 1989 “Mobilize for Women’s Rights” March in Washington, DC.
Survived by her sister, Lena Stewart and brother-in-law Stephen Saradnik of Newton Centre, MA; sister-in-law Mary Obregon Stewart of Blairsville; nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces/nephews too numerous to name. Living in Blairsville are niece Debbie Payne Foster, nephew Richard Stewart and his wife Gina, great-nephew Sean Payne and great-niece Madelyn Keller and husband Josh Holbrooks.
Linda was fortunate to have friends Alana Tollison, Larry & Margie Perry, Olivia, Judith, Cathy, and Debbie, who were Linda’s “chosen” family whose unconditional love, comfort, and support were a blessing.
Siblings who predeceased Linda: Arvil Stewart, Philippines; Melvin Stewart and sister-in-law Pat Fournier, Tucson, AZ; Lee Stewart, San Antonio, TX; Clarena Keller and brother-in-law, Jack Keller, Jonesboro, GA; infants Loretta and Gerald.
