Benton Jacob Fry, age 84, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021.
Born on October 4, 1936, in Clarkesville, he was a son of the late Hendricks Houston “Hink” Fry and Marjorie Lillian “Margie” Burrell Fry.
Mr. Fry was retired having worked for Stewart Finance. He was a United States Navy veteran having served four years on the USS Pickaway. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was a Mason. Mr. Fry was in the Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and also provided security for the Walenda Walk and the Mountain Laurel Festival. In 1972 and 1973, he managed APY for Habersham County. He was an avid reader who enjoyed trips to the library.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Fry was also preceded in death by brothers, Douglas “Doug” Keith Fry and Roy Hendrix Fry.
Survivors include brother, Jim Fry of Greer, South Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott Fry (Jennifer) of Oro Valley, Arizona and Joel Fry (Sherry) of Clarkesville; daughters and son-in-law, Tarra Fry Davey (Dustin) of Canton and Laura Fry of Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives.
Funeral services are 11 am on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Pastor Ronnie Powell and Mr. Scott Fry officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
