Trailwave crews work to restore service in Habersham

Trailwave Fiber crews spent the day Friday restoring internet service to some 250 subscribers knocked offline when a fiber line in Clarkesville was cut. Habersham EMC, which owns Trailwave, says the outage affected customers in Clarkesville and Demorest.

As of 11 p.m. Friday, about fifty subscribers were still without service. HEMC said it hoped to have everyone back online by midnight.

Local homes and businesses lost internet service around 2 p.m. Friday. Habersham County government sent out emails and a Code Red Alert to inform the public many of its agencies were offline.

The county reported internet and phone outages at the Habersham Administration Building, Aquatic Center, Animal Shelter, Fleet Maintenance, and Road Department. Despite the disruption, the offices remained open. County manager Phil Sutton says, “Everyone continued working.”

HEMC says it’s still looking into what led to the outage.

“Currently, we are in full restoration mode and are 100% focused on getting our subscribers’ service restored as soon as possible,” says HEMC spokesperson Nicole Dover. “We will do a full review once we have completed the restoration.”
