The Hall County School District is planning a systemwide pay raise for its employees — and a millage rate decrease for taxpayers.
The school district’s proposed $291,489,891 spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year includes a $21 million increase over last year’s budget due to temporary federal CARES Act funding.
According to Hall County Schools, the General Fund millage rate will be decreased by approximately 1.2 mills. Half a mill is dedicated to covering bond indebtedness on the system’s 10-Year Facility Plan, leaving a net .7 lower total millage rate for the community and its stakeholders.
A significant portion of the increased funding will be used to pay for pandemic-related trauma and mental health services. The school system is also increasing academic support “to help mitigate learning loss of students due to the pandemic,” says Hall County School Superintendent Will Schofield.
The Hall County School District plans to increase the pay rates of all its employees, but Schofield says the amount has not yet been determined.
Public information sessions will be held in conjunction with the district’s scheduled board meetings on June 14 and June 28 at 5 p.m. at the district office. The final budget and millage rate will be adopted on June 28 at the district’s regular board meeting.
