Kids of all ages can enjoy a morning of suds, sun, and fun at Pitts Park in Clarkesville on Wednesday, June 2. Habersham County’s two public libraries will host a free foam party at the park to celebrate the official kickoff of their summer reading programs.
There will be free Kona Ice, pizza, and all the allergy-free foaming bubbles you can run through.
“We’re going to fill up Pitts Park with bubbles,” says Cornelia Library Children’s Director Tiffany Arriaga. The event begins at 11 a.m. and will last until around 1 p.m. Just like the summer reading program; it’s open to people of all ages. Shorts or swimsuits are recommended.
Library workers will be at the park to help people sign up for this year’s summer reading program. There’s no cost to register or to attend the party. “It’s completely free,” says Arriaga.
In addition to earning prizes for reading books and participating in weekly challenges, the summer reading program will feature guest speakers and outings. The first program at the Cornelia Library is set for Thursday. A representative from Smithgall Woods in White County will present Tall Tails of Georgia’s wildlife.
The Clarkesville Library will host similar programs through July.
Although Arriaga has served as the children’s library director in Cornelia since last year, this is the first summer reading program she’s overseen. The libraries canceled the 2020 program because of the pandemic. Now she and, hopefully, many readers will spend this summer making up for the lost time.
“I really want the kids in the community to get out this summer and join us,” she says.
