Celebrate Memorial Day and start off the month of June with live music and more this week in (and around) Habersham.
Monday, May 31, The Roy Head Post 16 of American Legion will present a Memorial Day program at 9 a.m. at Freedom Park off of Highway 115 in Cleveland.
Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Grant-Reeves Veterans Memorial Park on Smith Loop Road in Demorest. Seating will be available. This year’s guest speaker is Jeff Carroll past VFW State Commander. At 12 noon there will be a bell-ringing ceremony at the KIA monument on the Clarkesville city square next to the gazebo. The ceremonies are hosted by the Grant-Reeves Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Auxiliary 7720.
The Lula-Belton Historical Society will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. at Veterans Park at 6007 Main Street in Lula.
American Post Legion 215 will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Homer. The guest speaker will be Henry David Banks. The park is located on Mulberry Street off of Historic U.S. 441 in Homer.
Now through July, the Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia is proud to present a new temporary exhibit featuring women folk potters of Northeast Georgia. The exhibit, “The Men Won’t Tell Us Anything”: Women of Georgia Folk Pottery (Born 1890 – 1940s), opened January 22, 2021, and will be on display into July of 2021. The museum is located at 283 GA-255 in Sautee Nacoochee.
Friday, June 4, head down to Gainesville Square for Downtown Gainesville’s farmers market for fresh produce, local honey, eggs, treats, live music, and community from 2:30-6:30 p.m.
Stay a little later for Downtown Gainesville’s “First Fridays” concert series. Put out a picnic blanket, support local and listen to soulful tunes as The Soul Purpose Band performs starting at 7 p.m. For more information on this event, check here.
If you’re in more of a bluegrass mood this Friday, look no further than the Sautee Nacoochee Center, which will host Northeast Georgia bluegrass groups Bluegrass Confidential and Bittersweet for “Bluegrass on the Green.” For tickets and more information, check out their website here. 
Saturday, June 5, test your strength at this year’s “Tri the Parks Triathlon” at Lake Lanier Olympic Park, starting bright and early at 8 a.m. Check out their website for registration, rules, winners, and more info!
The Elachee Nature Center will continue their kid’s meet-and-greet with the center’s animal residents (guests must pre-register here), and the Gainesville Botanical Gardens returns with their “Cocktails in the Garden.”
