A former Habersham County special education teacher charged with felony sex crimes against a student is back behind bars facing even more charges. Deputies rearrested Leslie Terrell on Wednesday, May 19, after the court determined she violated the terms of her bond.
Investigators were notified earlier this week that Terrell had re-contacted her alleged victim.
“Investigators conducted interviews and executed several search warrants to gather information regarding the new allegations,” says Habersham County Sheriff’s Major Murray Kogod. “The findings of the follow-up investigation have revealed evidence showing that Terrell has continued to pursue the inappropriate relationship with the juvenile.”
As a result of this most recent investigation, prosecutors moved to have Terrell’s bond revoked and deputies charged her with four additional counts including statutory rape, child molestation, enticing a child, and sexual battery.
Terrell, 34, resigned from her job on March 8 after Habersham County school administrators began investigating text messages she allegedly sent to one of her students. That led to a criminal investigation and initially ten counts being filed against her.
Terrell is being held in the Habersham County Detention Center without bond.
This article has been updated to reflect jail records that show Terrell was rearrested on May 19 not May 20 as the sheriff’s office previously reported
