Former longtime Habersham County commissioner dies

Hebron Lovell

Habersham County is honoring the life of one of its former long-serving leaders. Former county commissioner Hebron Lovell died Thursday. He was 91.

Lovell was an Army veteran who served with the 4th Infantry Division in Germany. After leaving the military, he returned home to Habersham to attend North Georgia Technical College and learn a trade on the GI Bill.

He built a career as a self-employed plumber and electrician and farmed while raising a family with his wife, Peggy, who passed away in March.

Lovell, who lived in Clarkesville, served on the Habersham County Commission for over 15 years.

On Friday, the Habersham County public relations officer released a mass email “remembering” Lovell. It said, “It is with deepest regret and sorrow that Habersham County announces the passing of our friend and former Habersham County Commissioner.”

The Lovell family will receive friends at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, May 8. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Hills Crossing Baptist Church.
