Emergency vehicles and first responders will overtake the normally serene setting on the Truett McConnell University campus in Cleveland on Wednesday. The University’s Martha Rielin and Elizabeth Salmen School of Nursing will conduct a mass casualty emergency drill from 1 –3 p.m. on March 31.
The drill will involve personnel from the university, Northeast Georgia Health System, City of Cleveland Emergency Services, White County Emergency Services, and Air Methods. It will focus on an intentional mass casualty incident with multiple injuries. Students and faculty will participate.
“This drill will allow our students to respond to extreme situations while practicing their clinical skills,” explains TMU Assistant Professor of Nursing C. Leigh Ammons.
Much of the drill will be held on the main campus lawn off of Highway 115 and will be visible to passersby. This annual event is being held in conjunction with TMU’s Disaster Preparedness Week.
