At their Mar. 15 meeting, the Habersham County Commission unanimously approved a $10.9 million bond to expedite the completion of the emergency radio system, emergency operation headquarters and City of Clarkesville utility SPLOST projects. The bonds will be paid off in less than six years, with an interest rate of 0.53 percent. The General Obligation bond sale was approved by Habersham County voters during the Nov. 3 election.
The commission has reentered the National Association of Counties (NACo) after several years. The NACo serves as an advocate for counties at the state and national level; their current mission is to work towards getting federal stimulus funds to county governments. The commission voted to rejoin the NACo in a 4-1 vote.
The Habersham County Commission and the City of Baldwin have voted to enter into a mutual aid agreement with the county and city’s fire services. The city and county had previously been enrolled in automatic aid, but the City of Baldwin voted to leave the automatic aid contract in 2018. The automatic aid is projected to quicken response times and offer more equipment in fighting fires within Habersham County.
