While Georgia lawmakers debate the fate of the state’s bi-annual time change, Georgians, along with much of the nation, are preparing to ‘spring’ forward.
Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14. Remember to set your clock ahead one hour before going to bed tonight.
Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John King also urges Georgians to change their smoke alarm batteries.
“Fire safety experts advise that smoke alarm batteries be changed twice per year, so a good rule of thumb is to change your batteries at the beginning and end of Daylight Saving Time,” King says.
Properly functioning smoke alarms can make the difference between life and death. Last year, working smoke alarms could have prevented 77 of 81 fatal residential fires in Georgia, the commissioner says.
King also encourages Georgians to test and clean dust from their smoke alarms monthly and practice a home fire escape plan.
