Friday fire damages Cleveland rental cabin

(Cleveland)- White County Fire Services was dispatched to a chimney fire Friday afternoon at 553 Monroe Ridge Drive in Cleveland. White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said the blaze was reported at 5 p.m. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a 2,000-square-foot rental cabin 30% involved with fire through the roof.

The occupants had rented the cabin for the weekend.

Firefighters made a defensive attack until more personnel arrived, then an interior attack which resulted in the fire being extinguished. According to Murphy Stations 7, 3, Helen Fire and Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade along with CERT Rehab Unit responded. No injuries were reported.

Murphy said firefighters were on scene for 3 1/2 hours. The fire was contained in two rooms and contents in the rest of the structure had heat and smoke damage.
