Paramedics airlifted a 3-year-old Clarkesville boy to an Atlanta hospital Wednesday after his dad accidentally ran over him in the family’s driveway.
John Getty with Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa says the child unexpectedly ran onto the driveway as Dale Chappell was backing up his 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck. “Mr. Chappell was not able to stop and the rear of [the] vehicle struck the child,” says Getty.
The accident happened around 6 p.m. on February 24.
The boy’s parents drove him to Habersham Medical Center in Demorest. There, an Air Life helicopter picked up the child and flew him to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black tells Now Habersham the boy suffered serious injuries but they did not appear to be life-threatening.
